This laptop is an excellent choice taking into consideration the price it sells for.
A 3-core processor, 4GB DDR3 1066MHz Ram and 320GB HDD are more than enough for anyone who wants a laptop for routine daily work like browsing webpages on the internet, or doing reading on the computer (ebooks, e-newspapers, etc.), or for writing reports, making presentations and so on. I can easily watch 720p movies on the laptop without any issues with searching n rewinding / forwarding them.
What I cannot be expected to do on this laptop is play newer games or do multimedia transcoding or engineering graphics. You cant expect a $520 machine to be a Ferrari! I will summarize in short how I rate the individual components: (keeping in mind the price)
Processor : 3-core AMD phenom is excellent for any routine task. For most of the time, the processor will run at a lower speed of 800MHz to save power except when the 1800MHz is required. So, it really doesnt matter 90% of the time if you have a 1.5GHz Processor, or 3GHz Processor if you use it for home / office work. (includes watching movies too)
4GB RAM: 1066MHz DDR3 is a lot of RAM for anything you'd do on this laptop. Nothing will take up more than 2-2.5 GB of it, so 4GB gives enough headroom for future software.
320GB HDD: Decent for a primary hard drive. You can always buy a 1TB external for another $100 if you need...
14" screen: More than sufficient for readability. If you are buying a laptop for movies primarily, you'd use a bigger screen. Screen is pretty clear and resolution is good - 1366 x 768
Keyboard is excellent. Keys are soft and responsive. The touchpad is also decent, its got a rough surface, which I personally like as it gives some traction. But for prolonged usage, I'd say you would like a mouse as the pad interferes while typing.
Battery lasts anywhere from 2.5-3.5 hours. It lasted me around 2-2.5 hours, when I was having a Skype video chat for the entire duration. I'd give battery life a 4 star.
Cons:
Build could have been more sturdy.
No inbuilt bluetooth device
Laptop speakers let you down if you want to watch movies / listen to music in a room with several people. Not loud enough.
Fan is a little noisy when laptop gets heated, but for me it stays off for most part, so its not a biggie.
So, I give it 5 starts for the price/performance ratio. Keeping only specs in mind, id say its a 3.5/5 stars. I personally find it a good buy. Recommended!

Since this is a value proposition, I paid 470 delivered to the door in 3 business days free super saver shipping. Way to go Amazon. Buried in some other reviews is a coupon code for 50 off the listed price of 519. I don't know if it's still valid.
4 days of testing and here's my scorecard
Trackpad: 4 stars as compared to my gaming mouse on the desktop. It's totally configurable but still some adaptation is required and it's not as precise for all functions as my mouse but I won't need to go to a laptop wireless mouse. Expect some errant selections until you are completly adapted and have the trackpad dialed in with special areas for "button" actions, touch sensitity, etc. The mechanical buttons are just fine too.
Keyboard: 5 stars compared to a lenovo T-41. Soft touch, nice spacing, excellent feel, quality way beyond the pricetag
14 inch display: 4 stars as compared to my Asus desktop (26 inch). Nice color depth out of the box. I felt no need to tweak the display, glossy screen can be an issue in bright conditions, excellent clarity.
Responsiveness: 4 stars (nothing valid to compare to) I haven't tried a game on this laptop. For typical tasks, music,photos,surfing,document processing, image processing, this thing is snappy. Multitasking...no problem
Battery: 2 stars. 1.5 hours watching a movie from the dvd player with the Wi-Fi radio turned off in eco mode. 1.25 hours streaming a movie from netflix in eco mode. The upside, it charges quickly, about 45 minutes to 100%. Maybe I'm doing something wrong. I'm considering a 12 cell battery but that is 100 bucks to go from generously 2 hours to 4 hours.
Value: 5 stars. In 4 years, this laptop will wind up in the recycle bin with the 1200 dollar fancy lappys and it does everything I want it to and more.
Cosmetic: 4 stars. Looks good, it's light, feels rugged. It's not aluminum so it loses a star but that's not really fair. Should have come with HDMI out.
Fan Noise: 4 stars. on a rare occasion, the fan will go to high and it is distracting. The great majority of the time, the fan is on low and barely audible.
I am very pleased with my purchase. Battery life took a star off the total. More testing is required to decide on a larger battery. I really wish it had a backlit keyboard. I frequently use it in dark conditions.
